Refined Sugar Free
Dairy-Free Copycat "Snickers" Sweet Treat

If you have a sweet tooth but don't want to eat regular sweets from the store like me, you've got to try this recipe for copycat "Snickers."

Since I've been working on healing from the inside out and learning how to feel better with food, I've not had the typical candies or chocolates from the store. It's been three to four years since I've had them, and honestly, I don't miss the junk ones that much because my goals to feel better have become bigger than wanting them. But Snickers used to be one of my favorites, and I still enjoy a sweet treat, so when I saw this idea, I jumped at it!

Thank you to the Detoxinista for the recipe inspiration! You can find her original recipe here if you want to make this recipe with peanuts.

But, I don't eat peanuts so I remade the recipe with almonds and almond butter. The recipe is below.

And here are the main reasons why you should make these copycat "Snickers"!

  1. The recipe is so simple! I can whip this up in about 10 minutes with staple pantry items I've come to always have on hand, pop it in the freezer to harden for about an hour and then enjoy it a short time later. It keeps well in the fridge or freezer after that.

  2. The "Snickers" are so delicious! My kids who sometimes have regular store "treats" will beg me to give them bites of this if they see me bring it out of the freezer. I do sometimes try to hide it for me though, but I feel really good about my kids having this treat.

  3. These are made with simple, healthier ingredients. If you want to avoid foods that cause inflammation or that you're sensitive to, these can be a customizable great option. They are dairy free, refined sugar free, gluten free, and if made with whole, single ingredients, they are much healthier with better fats and no preservatives, dyes, or other additives.

    Here's how to make them:

    INGREDIENTS

    Nougat Layer:

    1 1/4 cup almond flour

    2 tablespoons maple syrup

    2 tablespoons coconut oil

    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

    1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt

    Caramel:

1/4 cup almond butter (aim for one with just almonds)

3 tablespoons maple syrup (could possibly reduce this amount if too sweet)

    Almonds:

    1/3 cup chopped almonds

    Chocolate Topping:

    1/4 cup cacao powder

    1/4 cup melted coconut oil

1/4 cup maple syrup, at room temp

    INGREDIENTS

Use a bread sized loaf pan approximately 9 by 5 inches. Line it with parchment paper. Mix all of the nougat ingredients in a bowl and then spread in the bottom of the pan on the parchment paper. Then mix the caramel ingredients and spread on top of the nougat layer (I use the same bowl that I used for the nougat). Chop almonds and sprinkle on top of the caramel. Then mix the chocolate topping ingredients (again I use the same bowl as before) and spread it on top of the almonds. Sprinkle sea salt on top if desired. Freeze for about an hour to harden before cutting the bites. Or, refrigerate for longer if desired.

These have become one of my favorite treats, and I hope you make them and love them too!
